During its history, the Grand Prix has been contested on different circuits: Charade, Paul Armagnac de Nogaro and Nevers Magny-Cours, Le Mans on many occasions with Paul Ricard du Castellet. The race has been held since 2000 in Le Mans on the Bugatti circuit.
The Moto Grand Prix today includes three categories:
- MotoGP, the most famous category, with a cylinder capacity of 1,000 cc.
- the Moto2 class, championship dating from 2010: in addition to engines and tyres supplied by a single manufacturer, teams must build their own chassis. The frame, swingarm, tank, seat and fairing cannot come from a production bike. The motorcycle accompanied by the rider must not weigh less than 215 kg.
- the Moto3 category, championship created in 2012: just like the Moto2, components are imposed and criteria must be respected (single cylinder four-stroke engines of 250 cm3 maximum, 152 kg minimum for the motorcycle and the rider). The engines must be prepared by the teams and must not cost more than 12,000 euros.
This year's event will take place from 15 to 17 May 2020 on the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans.
